CEPlaylist Icon - Clicking on the CEPlayist icon will bring up an Advanced Preferences dialog, described below. Show File I/O Warnings - Some files may have an MP3, OGG or WMA extension, even though they are not music files. In addition, some music files are not created properly in the first place. If this preference is selected (default), when CEPlaylist tries to open and read such a file it will generate a warning identifying the bad file. To skip these warnings and allow the library to be built without interruptions, deselect this option. Update Song File Tags - When a song's title, artist, album, track, or genre is edited in the Song Library window, the data is automatically saved in the library file. The song files themselves will also be updated with the new information if this option is set (default). WARNING: In an error condition, this could cause the song file to be unplayable, and this option should only be selected if other copies of the song file exist. Rebuild Library on Startup - When selected (default), the database that the application uses to track all the songs on the device is recreated every time the application is started. This can be a lengthy operation as each file has to be found, opened, and have its tags parsed. If there are more than a few hundred songs on the device, it may be better to deselect this preference which will cause a database file to be created and used every time the application starts. If songs are frequently added to and deleted from the device, it may be better to leave the preference selected so the new data is read when the application starts. Always ask for Library Location - This option only applies if the Rebuild Library option is not selected. If this option is selected, the File Dialog will be presented every time the application is started so that the appropriate library file can be located. This is useful if songs are kept on removable media. The library can also be kept on the removable media so that it does not have to be rebuilt each time a card is swapped. The default for this option is 'deselected'. Use Action Button - When checked, this option maps the 'Action Button' on the PocketPC to the Play Selection menu on the Song Library view. It has no effect when used with the Playlist or Song List views. AutoReturn - When checked, this option will cause CEPlaylist to become the active window 10 seconds after selected songs have been sent to the player from the Song Library view. It has no effect when used with the Playlist or Song List views. Sort Song by - This option controls the order that song files will be listed in the Song Library view. It also determines the order that songs will be copied from the Song Library view to the Song List view. The choices are:
Default Library
DB: - The location of the Library database can be set here. This is
only used if the Rebuild Library option is not selected, and the
default Library database file is: Default Help File:
- The location of the help files can be set here. Because it is large,
it may be desirable to install these files on removable media. The default
help file location is: Source: - The starting point for the search for music files can be set here. This allows the search to be narrowed to a specific place, and is very useful if the PocketPC is connected to a network that may have thousands of files. The default source file location is the root directory (\). Clicking on the Change button will bring up the File Dialog and allow a new location to search for source files. The Net checkbox is only enabled on PocketPC2002 devices, and controls access to network files. If selected, CEPlaylist will search directories starting with '\NETWORK\' as well as local directories. This dialog allows
a new location for the Library database file to be identified. The dropdown
list shows the current directory and all parent directories. The box contains
all directories and files in the current directory. Double clicking on
a directory makes it the current directory. Clicking on The Library is saved in a 'Tab Separated Values' file named CEPlaylist.tsv, and can be read into Excel or any database program, as well as any text editor. This is an easy way to get a printout of the song files on your PocketPC. |

Network access is
only available on PocketPC 2002 devices. In order for CEPlaylist to find
files on the network, the PocketPC needs to be configured properly. This
consists of 2 steps: Mapping the network drives - Once the PocketPC is configured to access the network, a high level directory (\NETWORK\) will be available to all PocketPC applications. In order for drives on the network to be accessed, they have to be mapped to a local name. CEPlaylist has a simple process to allow you to do this, and there are many third party applications that do it as well. To map a network directory in CEPlaylist, select 'Map Network Connection' from the Tools menu. This will bring up the following dialog: |
|
![]() |
|
| Enter the network location to access your music files in the Remote Path box. If you are not sure what to put in here, you can see what is available on your network by opening the Network Explorer on your desktop, and looking at the listings. The example below shows where the \\Abit\Music used above came from. \\Abit\Multimedia would also have been a valid entry. | |

|
| In the Local name: box, enter a name that will be used in any file handling operations on the PocketPC. Whatever is used will show up as a folder under the \NETWORK\ directory. | |
