CE Playlist Help

Song Library Tab

This view allows songs to be selected individually, or by genre, artist and album. Once selected, they can be played directly by Windows Media Player, PocketMVP, withMP3, WinamPAQ, GSPlayer, or other PocketPC player - or their contents can be saved to the Song List. The order in which the songs are displayed is set using the menu, which allows the following views:

- Genre / Artist / Album
- Genre / Album / Artist
- Artist / Album
- Album / Artist
- Album Title Only

- Artist Only

- Directory / Filename

The order of the Songs in the view is determined by the 'Sort Songs by' setting in the Preferences panel. The choices are:
Date-Ascending by the File Modification timestamp
Alpha-Alphabetically by the song's Name tag
Filename-Alphabetically by the song's filename
Trk-When checked, songs will be sorted based on the song's Track tag

Search Dialog

The Search Dialog allows any song, artist, or album to be found that contains a word or phrase. By selecting artist, album, or song, entering a word or phrase, and clicking GO, all matches will be shown in the Results box. If an entry is selected in the Results box and the Select in Library button is pressed, the selected item will be highlighted in the Song Library window. If the Copy All to Song List button is pressed, then all of the entries in the Results box will be copied to the Song List window.

If the current view is Directory - Filename, then the only selection is Search By File Name. The results found will be based on searching the file names only, and any Song Tag information will not be searched. The buttons work the same as described above.

Edit Song Dialog

This dialog allows the song tags to be edited. The Song Library will always be updated with changes made here, and if the Update Song File Tags preference is set in Preferences, then the song file will also be updated. If CEPlaylist does not recognize the structure of the file, it will not update it. At the top of the dialog is the path of the currently selected song.

Artist - The Artist drop down list shows all of the currently found artists. To add a new artist, click the Artist button which displays the Add New Artist screen.

Album - The Album drop down list shows all of the albums found for the selected artist. To add a new album for this artist, click the Album button which displays the Change Album screen.

Genre - The Genre drop down list shows the standard list of genres supported by most MP3, OGG and WMA players, along with any custom Genres found in the song files when the library was built.

Title - The Title edit box allows the song's title to be changed. This does not change the name of the file.

Track - The Track Up/Down control allows the song's track number to be changed. Acceptable range is 0-32. If the song file did not contain a track tag, then this field will be blank.

Delete - The Delete button will delete this song from the list as well as the device.

OK - When the OK button is clicked, the Verify Update window is displayed.

Cancel - The Cancel button will return to the Song Library without making any changes.

Verify Song Data Update

This window shows the original and proposed data change for the song file.

OK - When the OK button is clicked, the Song Library is updated with the new tag data. If the 'Update Song File Tags' option is selected in Preferences then the song file itself will be modified with the new tags.

If the original song file does not have enough extra buffer space to contain the changes made to the tags, then a dialog box will be shown saying that the entire file will have to be rewritten. Clicking cancel will stop the changes from being made. If OK is clicked, then buffer space is added to the song file and the edits are applied. This can take quite a long time, as song files are very large.

Cancel - The Cancel button will return to the Song Library without making any changes.

File Menu

New Playlist - Switches to the Song List, clears it, and resets title to Unknown.

Open Playlist - Switches to the Song List, brings up the File Dialog and allows a playlist to be opened. Once opened all the songs will be copied to the Song List. If a playlist contains a song that is not on the device, a warning dialog is shown. Playlists can also be created on a PC using Windows Media Player, Music Match, or WinAmp and copied to the PocketPC. When these playlists are opened, CEPlaylist will automatically adjust the path names to the location of the song files on the PocketPC.

Save Selected to Playlist - This option causes whatever is selected (Genre, Album, Artist, Song) to be saved to a playlist directly, without having to copy the songs to the Song List first. When selected, the File Dialog is shown.

Player - When this option is clicked, a submenu is opened allowing the format of the playlist files to be selected.

Play Selection - Plays selected song, or all songs by selected Genre, Album or Artist. This option actually creates a temporary playlist and calls the appropriate player to play the playlist. This is the same as

Player Menu

This submenu allows the format of the playlist files to be selected. The setting also determines which player will be started when Play Selection is clicked.

Windows Media (asx) - Selecting this option causes all playlists to be created using Windows Media format and with an extension of .asx. When Play Selection is clicked, CEPlaylist will cause Windows Media Player to play the selected files if it is associated with .asx files.

withMP3 (plt) - Selecting this option causes all playlists to be created using withMP3's format and with an extension of .plt. When Play Selection is clicked, CEPlaylist will cause withMP3 to play the selected files.

PocketMVP (pdl) - Selecting this option causes all playlists to be created using PocketMVP's format and with an extension of .pdl. When Play Selection is clicked, CEPlaylist will cause PocketMVP to play the selected files if it is associated with .pdl files. This also works with the older PocketDivx player as well.

M3U Format (m3u) - Selecting this option causes all playlists to be created and saved using a standard M3U format and with an extension of .m3u. When Play Selection is clicked, CEPlaylist will cause any player that is associated with .m3u files to play the selected files, if the player supports file association starts.

WinamPAQ (lst) - Selecting this option causes all playlists to be created using WinamPAQ's format and with an extension of .lst. When Play Selection is clicked, CEPlaylist will create a temporary playlist and start up WinamPAQ with the playlist loaded. Because WinamPAQ does not provide a way for it to start up playling a playlist, the play button in WinamPAQ must still be clicked before the songs will start playing.

GSPlayer (m3u) - Selecting this option causes all playlists to be created using GSPlayer's format and with an extension of .m3u. When Play Selection is clicked, CEPlaylist will cause GSPlayer to play the selected files.

Windows Media (wpl) - Selecting this option causes all playlists to be created using Windows Media format and with an extension of .wpl. When Play Selection is clicked, CEPlaylist will cause Windows Media Player to play the selected files if it is associated with .wpl files.
