The game display shows the time remaining as a rising water level, and the number of correct guesses as a bridge being built. A red jeep drives up the hill and will be stranded at the top if the bridge is not built before the water rises to the top.

Categories - The data file included with the program contains 300 movie titles, 350 song titles, 55 TV show titles, and 150 best selling fiction and non-fiction books. Additional data files can be downloaded using the links below.

Data files 1-8 each contain unique Song, Book, Movie, and TV show titles. New data files can simply be copied to the PocketPC using ActiveSync Explorer, overwriting the original data file. The data file must be placed in the same location as the Phraseology program, and must be renamed to Data.dat.

By using the category drop-down box in the upper right corner, a specific category can be selected.

Stealth Mode - Phraseology also has a 'stealth mode' that makes the game appear to others as a normal productivity application while it is being played. Anyone looking at the screen in this mode would not think that a game was being played, making it perfect for those long meetings. The top half of the screen is a fully functioning text notepad that can be edited using any of the PocketPC data input methods when the game is paused. The window also supports 'Tap & Hold' for the standard edit commands. Whatever is on this note is automatically saved in a file called Note.txt when the program quits, and will be automatically be reloaded the next time the program is started.

If the Enter key is pressed, (or Pause is selected on the Tools menu), the game is paused and hidden and the notepad edit box with the standard keyboard is displayed. Selecting Resume on the Tools menu will redisplay and resume the game.

Hints - The current phrase's category is displayed in the Space bar on the keyboard. If the space bar is clicked (or Hint is selected on the Tools menu), a hint will be displayed in a dialog box. The game timer keeps going, so don't look at it too long! Some hints may give away the answer, so use them sparingly.

Song Title Hint: Gives the Genre, Artist, and Album of the song.

Movie Title Hint: Gives the Year, Genre, and Director for the movie.

TV Show Hint: Gives the Year and Genre of the show.

Book Title Hint: Gives the Year, Fiction/NonFiction Best Seller Ranking, and Author for the book.

Preferences- The Preferences selection on the Tools menu allows the rules governing the game to be changed. Based on the size of the phrase, the timeout and number of bad guesses allowed can be set for four different levels.

The default settings shown mean that if a phrase is 5 characters or less, the timeout will be 30 seconds, and the number of bad guesses allowed would be 3. If the phrase is 10 characters or less, the timeout will be 45 seconds, and the number of bad guesses allowed would be 4. If the phrase is 15 characters or less, the timeout will be 60 seconds, and the number of bad guesses allowed would be 5. If the phrase is greater than 15 characters, the timeout will be 75 seconds, and the number of bad guesses allowed would be 6.

About - Standard 'about' dialog
Registration - Dialog that allows the registration code to be entered.
Help - This selection will bring up a Help window describing the program.
Preferences - This brings up the Preferences window, described above.
Game Display - This selection sets up a graphical display during gameplay, described above.
Note Display - This selection sets up a display that allows the game to be played in 'stealth' mode, described above.
Hint - This selection will display a hint in a dialog box, described above. This is the same as clicking the spacebar during gameplay.
Pause - This pauses and hides the game, and the notepad edit box with the standard keyboard is displayed. This is the same as clicking the Enter key during gameplay. Selecting Resume on the Tools menu will redisplay and resume the game.
Quit - This selection ends the game, saving all settings and whatever is on the notepad.

New - This selection starts a new game.

Phraseology is shareware, and is fully functional. Until it is registered, gameplay is limited to 12 phrases.
